thanks, i think i am going to test the em272. do you know how to solder it to usb-c? i want to use a phone for the recording, which seems to have the best price-performance ratio these days imo.

The easiest way will be to solder to a minijack 3.5.
Did you check second hand handheld recorders? They are way cheaper than phones, and you can leave them hidden without the fear of loosing it.

I had a quite expensive from Sony, did a wonderful job, but it got stolen together with my camera and i never bought a new. I love the option to use wifi remote control on phones and my hope is that with a good external microphone it would be about the same quality.
i think the 3,5mm jack is the best option which could be used with an usb-c adapter. did you also looked at the em272M? seems to have a quite good noise cancellation

Sorry to hear that was stolen.
I'm curious about your project with the phone. Please, keep me posted with that. It can be really interesting to see the results.
Didn't know about EM272M, I just had to look it on internet. Looks really good. Are you planing to buy that capsule?

I already tested it, tethering the phone to a powerbank with about 25.000 mAh gives you about a week of running power (everything unneeded deinstalled and thing like bluetooth and gps turned of), but the built in mics not the best, so an update to that would be perfect.
I'm running Pfitzinger Voice Designs Field recorder on the phone, you can select the microphones for record, turn of internal processing of the audio stream, and best thing, you can set the resoulution ( i run native 44khz) to control file size. this gives you ideally a perfect clean soundfile and with an external microphone it would be possible to record directionaly and in highest quality. a housing for the mic would narrow the direction and the noise cancellation would help with interference signals.
you can either access the files directly or upload it to you cloud or ftp after connecting to the phone via team viewer or an other remote control software, which gives you full access to the phones functions.

I have one pair of Clippy mics with the EM272 and one Pluggy EM272 mic with xlr for the Zoom h4essetial recorder. For sounds far away they're very good and the sound is natural. The mics have very low selfnoise. The downside is they are omnidirectional so if you're in a non isolated neibhbourhood, like I am, all sounds are picked. If you are in this circumstance pick a wall microphone.

This is really useful information. One of the things that lack the handheld recorders is to last longer than 7-8 hours. So with your setup is perfect for hidden mics in places with difficult daily access.

Interesting. We need to dive more to build those mics to USB-C connector. I like the idea to record @ 44khz and with such sensitive mics. Since I have the mics, I might be able to build and test, but didn't find any "how-to-DIY" guide.
Do you need pre-amp motherboard between the phone and the mic? Lots of questions and doubts on this

Well noted. I had (and have) the same situations with EM272: they capture from long distance, but in a noisy environment it will ruin the capture. If the hallway or location is super quite, then they are superb.
