New Archives?

I told you that I have not yet decided on the future of the Archives yet. In the meantime I tend to bring them back one way or another. We are reaching 9GB of collected sounds and it would be a shame to keep them away from members for all time.
The Archives topic has to be thought about in association with the expense too. I paid 520€ for hosting the site for one year so far and having the archives (and probably the podcast) back won't reduce the burden.
I am thinking about three possible solutions and would like to ask the members which one they prefer - or if there are other ideas which should be taken into considerations.
1) No Archives + a donation button for the refinancing
2) Archives only for Active Members + a donation button
3) Archives for Active Members + Subcribers
Please reply to this thread to discuss and vote for your favorite option.
Thanks

Given how much you must spend to keep the site going, it shouldn't be too much to ask for enough to cover your expenses for the archieve.

Hmmm, tricky question. For me, I think it's between the 1st 2 options, because I don't have a better idea to tick the 4th lol.
I don't know how much actual profit this place ever made Yeppie from subscriptions, and it seems to me that having a subscription option is one of the things that made the comunity vulnerable to Mr Obsessive a few months back. People seem to expect certain things from a paid service. The re-written rules are admirable sentiments, and they show that we're doing our best as a collection of likeminded enthusiasts, but from reading the story of what went down before it seems that Mr Obsessive based a lot of his case on the fact that we had extra rules/regulations that had to be met due to being a pay site.
That all might be a load of pants, because I'm no expert in legal or financial matters. I know that I'd be happy to donate to keep this place going (especially as my options for actual sharing are limited these days and are practically crushed by the new rules). How many of the other perves would put their hands in their pockets, I have no clue.
Just my 2 cents really.

I'm quite happy to give Mr Obsessive a well-deserved smack in the mouth
Twat probably wanks over pictures of Hitler anyway.

Option 3 seems to be the best bet today but I am waiting for 20 votes at least.

I know that it was more than enough to pay the server but by far not enough to pay for yeppie's working hours. In the meantime the server costs have more than doubled ...

That's the reason for options 1 and 2. I think the rules are pretty clear but fear to be threatened like yeppie was because of re-establishing (paid) archives. Anybody with some good advice?

I think a donation button could raise enough money to continue paying the servers - not more than that but that would be fine for me.
Thanks Scott-uk!

I can't approve that. What I know is that "Mr Obsessive" as you call him resides not to far from Scott and that he rejoined the forum most likely on the day of the reopening (different user name and ip, disposable email, he tries to be clever).

Fair enough, I can understand there wouldn't be much call for pictures of Hitler anyway

Morning- New member and finding this site I feel like I died and went to heaven - would have no problem contributing to cost of running the site , seems only fair
