Anniversary Uploads

Hi all,

Three years ago today, I joined this forum. Here in the Netherlands, it’s customary to bring treats when it’s your birthday, so I thought I’d try to introduce that fine Dutch tradition here as well. Unfortunately, cake doesn’t upload particularly well, so recordings will have to do.

Over the past few years, I’ve shared several of my own recordings with you. They always featured guests who stayed with us for shorter or longer periods of time. For those of you thinking, *“Wait, what recordings?”* — have a look for my series about our tenant, Emese.

One recurring issue with my recordings has always been the less-than-stellar audio quality. I can only record from outside our guest accommodation, and during winter there’s also a heat pump that has an uncanny ability to make itself heard at exactly the wrong moment.

Recently, however, I’ve spent an almost unhealthy amount of time experimenting with all kinds of iZotope plug-ins. So, for my anniversary, I’m treating you to three recordings.

The first is from the Emese series: one of the longest and best recordings I made. It was winter, and temperatures were pretty low by Dutch standards. And well... what does an 18-year-old student do when it’s freezing outside? Apparently, staying warm can take many forms.

The second recording is from this year, when we had a temporary tenant staying with us. I hadn’t exactly anticipated him receiving female company, so unfortunately the recording was made from much too far away. But apparently RX 12 has decided that the laws of acoustics are merely suggestions. The result turned out surprisingly well.

There may even be a third recording later today. I’m not going to remaster the entire Emese series, though - there are limits to both my free time and my dedication to audio archaeology.

Enjoy!

At the end of this “birthday,” here’s another capture that was very popular. The audio had been rather sloppily cleaned up, which didn’t do justice to this Hungarian cutie and her boyfriend. They stayed with us at the end of last year, and when we were at work on Monday morning, they seized their chance.

WARNING! before listening some segments around 5 minutes to 8 minutes and about 13:30 min are very loud because of monday morning traffic and a firetruck passing.

For the coming year, I’m hoping for more contributions, but as we all know, it’s always a matter of waiting and hoping for the best.

Enjoy!

I listened to a few minutes of both sounds and I can't hear any ear damaging peeps. Please do not turn the volume to max, especially when using headphones if you don't know the loudness and quality of the sound you're listening to. There might be sudden peaks for example.
Hope your feeling better now.

I analyzed the audio once again. above 10 khz there are some artifacts that I could have filtered. I chose to leave them and not lowpass that spectrum. Most of us don't hear this frequencyrange. I'm really sorry if I caused any harm.

Safer for ears versions

Removed whine/hum. Sounded like a noisy PSU nearby. Be careful with your volume folks, doubly so when you're listening to long files.

@Yeppie, better to archive these versions instead of the OP.

I listened to my file of the Hungarian guests again, but can't understand what the girl says. If there are Magyar native speakers overhere, can you give it a try for me?
