This is a decent catch, it's good that you caught start through to finish and didn;t run away at the faintest disturbance. Sounds like you're in a corridor and continue to hold the mic throughout? Am I right you didn't really come any closer to the room/door of the couple and remained at a 15-20 foot distance?
I think that if you had dared to come right to their door (or just drop the mic there and then take a couple steps back yourself) this would've been an absolute winner
