Thanks for the tip, it helped a lot. Last night I used duct tape to keep the mic in place and kept the recorder on my bed and recorded the entire night. I'm just now listening to the file but it seems to have worked pretty well. I am wondering if there's a better way to look through 8 hours of audio for any good stuff than to just skip 5 minutes at a time and listen for a bit (her boyfriend wasn't there but I'm hoping she might have had some fun on her own  ).

Edit: Also I tried recording as both PCM and 256kbps MP3, and I noticed a lot less noise with PCM, so I think I'm gonna go buy a microSD card so I can record overnight in PCM and then try converting it to a lossless codec like FLAC.

Sounds as if this could become the next great series ...

When I have to scan through hours of recordings (from my hotel stays) I only skip parts with loud noises from other sources and use fast forward listening for the rest. My software for editing is audobe audition (previously known as cool edit) but there should be other tools for listening to highspeed playback. You can adjust the speed for video playback in VLC media player and as it plays sounds too, that would be the first software I´d check. I usually listen to 3x speed and return to normal speed whenever a sound catches my attention.

Not audio software savvy at all, but I like windows movie maker (for win XP, for some reason on Windows 7 they discountinued it). When capturing audio it has a sound graph (like what you see on CSI or crime investigation movies).... and you can just forward to where there is a large wave portion. Another method i use is just manual skipping ahead every 2-3 min and listen for 5-10 seconds each.

Thanks for the advice. I'm using audacity and it'll playback at 3x speed and show a sound graph. Unfortunately her boyfriend hasn't been around since last Monday afternoon and she hasn't gone to see him at night yet, so I'm starting to worry its a long distance relationship and I won't have as many opportunities to record them as I thought I would. Hopefully he's just out of town though.

Haha, I've actually been looking up hotels on tripadvisor the past couple of days. I might book one soon since it should be a busy time here and the hotel should be full.

Edit: Ugh, I tried out a new spot last night and ended up picking up her phone conversation. I won't go into details but I doubt the boyfriend is coming around again anytime soon if ever :(

ejfsanchez2 wrote:The wall listening device works great. However since it is a super sensitive microphone any movement from your hands is amplified to a point that your ears hurt. I find that I have to use something to prop it into place so that it doesn't move at all. Usually you hear white noise and you can definately hear your hotel neighbors talking, watching TV, and yes Even having Sex. However if you are anywhere near a wall outlet the microphone will pick up the electricity noise of 60HZ which is kind of an annoying buzzing sound. Another thing, if you are listening while it is plugged in charging you will hear the Transformer in the charger which is also annoying. Overall I am happy with my ear listening device, I use it as a listening device. When the fucking was taking place (their headboard shared the same wall with my headboard) it was really exciting, it felt like I was in the room with them, secretly beating off to their sounds of passionate sex. You can really hear the loud orgasms, and even the soft kissing, slapping and contained soft orgasms as well as sensual breathing.
Although I didn't get to hear any action like this I have to say that the device is very good, but almost too sensitive.

If you hold it against the wall then any movement of your fingers/hand/arm is heard as crackle, likewise if the audio cable moves then you get crackle.

I think the ideal would be to somehow wedge the device against the wall, with the cable running to a laptop with separate mic and head phone sockets so that the cable from the listening device to the laptop doesn't move, but you can still hear what's going on in the headphones.

All in all well worth the modest outlay, and looking forward to my next business trip....

I didn't pick up much besides the AC and them talking a bit the last 2 nights. Hopefully this heat wave will end soon and their AC won't be on for 45 minutes of every hour until 2 a.m., otherwise it might not be quiet enough to hear them until September. Also her boyfriend is in the military, so lets hope he doesn't ship overseas.

I am not having much luck recently. I have been staying at hotels and the past couple of times its usually families that I have as neighbors, and they don't have sex because the kids sleep in the same room. And recently there was a woman on the other side of the headboard wall, But she was there on business and spent most of the time talking to her loved ones on the phone and left her tv on all day when she wasn't there. To top it off my room was near the pool and near the pool is really noisy especially in the summer. Nothing but loud kids running around. So its hard to listen carefully over a tv a cell phone conversation and kids yelling in the pool. I thought I heard some sex but its hard to tell because there is so much noise being picked up. I can't wait for summer to be over.

I captured something using my device. I will try and post it Sunday night. It was a blonde girl in her mid 40s with her husband. She was about 5' 10" 120 lbs skinny built with a nice butt. The weird thing is they were using my hotel neighbors room which shares headboards with mine. And the guy was still in there during the sex. Maybe they were swingers. But I think that my neighbor was banging the guys wife while her husband watched.

Best way to sift through audio for the good bits is to see it visually presented first, like using something like Audacity to show you the waveform. Focus on where there are spikes/activity, listen for confirmation. That's what I do.

I have one of these. Wow! Theres tons of background HVAC etc but it catches everything that you can't hear otherwise. I'd leave it in a place against the wall and let it record. Then sample. You have to listen pretty close if they are in a few rooms away but you still get it.
