Hi,

I made a business trip to the USA last week, arriving in Atlanta at about 10.30 at night feeling very, very jetlagged. As I dragged my pullalong into the elevator a couple in their late thirties sort of fell-in after me, she giggling excitedly and he struggling to hold her up while also carrying a wine bottle and a couple of stem glasses. She was quite nice looking, about 5' 11", curvy, perhaps slightly overweight, with medium length dark hair, nicely dressed though looking a bit ruffled from a night in the bar or restaurant. He was similarly tall, clean shaven, wearing jeans and a casual shirt and waistcoat combination. They were obviously having fun and were almost oblivious to me. He glanced at the elevator controls and nodded at me, so I assumed we were heading for the same floor.

They got out first so I followed a few steps behind, taking my time to look at my room key and the wall signs for directions.It was quite comical watching them stagger along the corridor lurching against the wall and I got the impression that while she was very drunk, he was actually much more sober and was able to guide her progress quite adequately.

I made sure they got to their room head of me then as soon as I heard the door chain click in place I positioned my recorder, before heading off to my own room to shower and unpack.

I returned about 40 minutes later and could here them talking, somewhat drunkenly I would say, and the occasional clink of a glass, so I replaced the recorder with a new one then, being really tired by that point, I went straight to bed.

I had another flight the following morning so it wasn't until the next evening that I checked the recordings. As it turned out their drunken conversation lasted almost two and a half hours, during which time they consumed the wine bottle. By the time they finally settled down their voices were almost incomprehensible due to the alcohol. This is when the first clip happened.

The next clip was the following morning at about 08.00, just a few minutes before I left the hotel for the airport. Bizarrely, a man had decided to stand in the corridor just a few feet away from their room for a telephone conversation which gave me some difficulty in collecting my mic' on the way out. I got round this by deliberately dropping my key as I walked past, then collected the mic' as I bent down to pick it up.
