Rude Members

Post by emmpet8 »

I find it really annoying when a member has obviously downloaded a file and makes a comment in the thread without saying thanks for contributing in any way at all. I'm not talking about posts that are in the wrong section, or contravene board rules here.

emmpet8, I totally agree with you on that point. I am not 100% perfect, but I do try to always say thank you, even if I plan on listening to things later. And often times I will return with comments later that more specifically reflect on the content.

That being said, sadly, the internet, and hell, the world, often times strikes me as a bunch of thankless users. Sadly, you have to get used to it, and just take the thanks from the small percentage that will thank you, or go away. For what it is worth, I will unveil a bit of the board of elders, and we do notice the exact kind of activity you are mentioning, and it does make a difference when people ask for things.

The best I can do is encourage you to post when you have stuff, get involved in some of the interesting conversations that pop up here and celebrate the good.

FWIW, know exactly how you feel. I live out in the country but I am a pack rat. I am on many recycling groups and someone will be crying about needing something that I have and I am not using, so I offer it up. And 90% of the time I don't even get a "thanks but no thanks, too much of a drive for me to pick up" reply. So, I know very much how you feel. On the flip side, I met one of my best friends on there and a lot of other really cool people. The ratio of the good to the bad is low, but that seems to be the case in life.

Thanks reggind and spock, I'm glad somebody agrees. Another member has asked me to clarify what I'm trying to say.

For me it's when a member has obviously downloaded a file and then having listened to it, bothers to make a comment. That might be constructive criticism, advice, technical corrections, suggestions or whatever. Then having bothered to make that comment, fails to say a thanks in any way for the contribution and I'm not saying the word 'thanks' needs to be used. Surely it's not too much to ask that they add some appreciation for the effort to whatever else they say, even if they didn't like the file.

This community depends on contributions from members who can and are willing to post. In my opinion we should all try to encourage them to continue. I understand that many members just download and never say thanks and as reg said, that's just the internet, but if you're already typing, why not add a bit of praise for the effort to provide the board with more material?

I hear you Emmpet and echo your frustrations. I believe Reggind hit the nail on the head with his comments though. Sadly their will always be a 'peanut gallery' of trolls that instead of saying thanks or just being silent will feel the need to armchair quarterback their 2 cents without regard to anyone in comments such as "sound quality could be better" "i don't like (whatever content)", why didn't you do this or that to make the clip better and other annoying/unappreciative type comments.

I am with the 'if you don't have anything nice to say.." camp so definitely feel your frustrations with these types but sadly the internet does tend to bring out the troll in some people and is a very "only me" type atmosphere meaning they are not thinking about anything other than what they want to hear/say/feel. I try not to take any comments to heart, especially considering the sources (ie. if it is a member that ONLY posts negative comments or it is one of their first posts, etc).

Just remember as this is a "community" the elders do notice the trolls and have taken action before against those types so if you notice any negative behavior please bring it to our attention so we can discuss. That all said, we do appreciate all your contributions here and try to make it a fun and friendly community for all so thank you again and keep up the great work!

Thanks for the comments and support. You hit the nail on the head with your list of comments. I wouldn't even mind those, if there was something positive about the fact a member has tried to contribute. I agree with what you said about it being a friendly community.

For me it is when I see someone who took the time to post, and the post has like 125 views in 1 day and there are ZERO comments. It's like come on guys, at least say thank you. I am not sure if this is just total rudeness, or some people are just confused at how to say thank you. That may not be a silly as it sounds.

So, as a public service, here is a quick primer on how to say thank you.

if you want to say thank you, but don't know exactly what to say, simply saying "Thank you" is far better than nothing. And it does not get old.

If the person related to trying really hard to getting the file(s) you are listening to, Gekko is a fine example here, you might want to elaborate and thank them for spending the time and effort.

If after listening to a file you find you really like it a lot, no one will spank you for posting again and letting the world know what you enjoyed about it. For example, "that girl had a really sweet voice".

It really is not all that hard.

I look more at the file download numbers more than the post views as some members may view the post but not download or listen to the sound if it is not a type of sound they are interested in.

I try very, very hard not to criticize captures. When I think about the goldmine inside here, it keeps me in check.

Hello

I am new to this community and I registered because I like what others and I can share. What I did pretty quickly for the first time in my life ... I really regret that on the sound I shared there are more than 550 downloads and very few likes or thanks ... quite frustrating ! But I appreciate the comments of people who thanked quickly enough. I hope this will change quickly and that everyone will say their own opinion about what they like!

Hope to share more in the few days ... if my neighbor wants to be fucked as often as possible
