Login-problem - anybody else? - any ideas?

Post by yeppie »

Our long-time member Panos has emailed me because he faces problems to log in since some days. I quote from his messages hoping that some of our experts do have better ideas than I have how to get this fixed.

Email from Panos:
I login in as it says succesfully to your site but neither UTC hour changes (+2 hours for my country) nor the color of backround I have chosen (blue). I cannot see my account button and options so that means I'm not fully logged in though I can see my name in the list below who is on line now (registered users). When I open a last post with attachment, all the attachments are written in red letters with this message "You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post." so I cannot download any file! Untill now I could download all the last attachments with no problems.Do you have made any changes to your site about the downloads?
Mates, I do rely on you (even more as I do not have some spare time to care until wednesday or so)!

Peta,
Are you using the Firefox browser? I had a similar problem when Yeppie was upgrading the forum software recently. I found that IE worked fine, Firefox had this problem. So, the solution was to use IE or I also found that if, immediately after logging into the site, I clicked the "Return to Index Page" link instead of waiting for it to load itself (in Firefox) it would load normally. That problem has since gone away, I don't know why!

Adding to Shung's report - I'm on Firefox too and there was a time when I had to login twice. This does not happen any more without me having changed anything, possibly because of bugfixes through the automatic updates of FF.
Panos, please try IE and check if you have the latest Firefox version with all recent updates.
Thanks Shung.

I'm having the same problems as Panos. Here is one of the emails I sent to Yeppie....

Hello Yeppie,

Just wanted to give you an update on my log on problems at your site.

It may be a Windows Vista problem....because I have 2 laptops, and the one using Windows XP I can
log on without any problem at all, but with my Windows Vista laptop, I can't.

Must be a new issue since iv'e never had this problem before with Vista....until now.

Maybe Panos also has Windows Vista....and that is why he's having the same problems?

Wonder if other members are having problems too.

Strange problem, I suppose this is another weird security thing? Anybody sharing Jasons's experience?
On the other hand, what could you expect from an OS called Vista which means something like view. Let's hope that they will call the next generation Windows Listena ...

Everytime lately that I have gone to the community,it gives me this:
You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum.
Whicjh is bullshit of the first order.Doesn't matter what my cookies setting is,and then when I do try to log on,it says I'm logged in but still persists in the same old tired bullshit.

So I have to log out of what I am doing and switch from Firefox to that goddamm piece of shit Internet Explorer just to see if anything has been added.

AARGGHHH and GODAMMIT!!!

No worries,just wanted to vent.
