Re: Hotel rooms on Business travel

I've done some extensive business travel in my time. Just got back from a trade show in vegas a couple of months back and thought I'd talk about it:

First, trade shows. Watching some of my co-workers and customers at trade shows, I've learned: Some married couples who are having affairs use trade shows as cover. (1) They get to get away to a hotel with their partner. (2) It's easy to just take an earlier flight to spend extra time with someone. (3) Trade shows aren't like meetings. Most employers don't keep tabs on how long your there.

Recent trip to Vegas for a trade show. Stayed in a business suite. I flew in the night before the event. The room next door had a "do not disburb" sign up at 9:00 that night. I knew that was a good sign. Sure enough, they were at it most of the night and the next morning. Left the hotel just long enough to check in and say they were there, then back for another session. To find these, you need to be at one of the "host" hotels for the trade show. Walking distance to the venue, etc. Couples like this just want to stroll over, put in an appearance, then sneak back to their hotel.

This couple is one I'll be posting as soon as I get finished editing.

I can recognize many of the things said here from travelling a lot on business - mainly across Europe, but also USA and not least China, where I go quite often. As I stated at one of my recordings from Shanghai it is often very difficult to record in Chinese hotels - at least the 4 or 5 star hotels I stay in because of high security, many security people in the corridors and cameras, but also quite a lot of sound proof walls and air conditioning systems that give bad sound to the recordings.
When travelling in Europe I prefer to book myself on the internet and read about the hotels as many of you, and sometimes you are lucky - sometimes not. I have also discovered that the day of the week is of importance and has often experienced Thursday and Friday to be the best days - either because people end training or conferences by the end of the week and this is the last chance to get something going. I haven't made any sophisticated statistics on this, so I wonder, whether you experience the same in business hotels???
