Hotel rooms on Business travel

I travel a fair amount for business, and try to find hotels where there might be tourists and not just other business travelers. I also find I have the best luck in rooms with adjoining doors rather than a full wall. Nothing is better than hearing a hot couple going at it, and imagining what they look like. I do travel too for business, not that often staying in hotels, but maybe once in a month. Never recorded, I wouldn't have a clue how to go about doing it so that anything could be heard. With an adjoining door a simple microphone connected to a laptop would probably work, but not sure how good the quality would be...I'll give it a try. Any suggestions on how to make a good recording?

I've had good luck with the Olympus digital voice recorders - various models - 120 / 240 / 480 - and either a small mic -- you can find one that's buried inside a fake ball point pen for $ 10.00 or so on the internet auction sites. Big Squid Audio sells cardiod mics that will cut down on the clutter when you are recording... 20 to 25 dollars I think..
I've also tried a small omni directional mic designed for use with a lap top... the 1/8" plug fits the voice recorder and the head is small enough to fit beneath many hotel door jams.

I have to travel for work all too often, they put me up in decent hotels, but nothing fancy. Hotel rooms all seem the same, cheap furnature, big bed, usually a fan or a heater or aircondition that is noisy. However there is one good aspect, sometimes I get listen to couples in the next room.

I have found that sort of middle class hotels/motels seem to give the best chance of hearing something - I think “high class” ones there are too many business men with no women. I've been staying in motels for years due to business and have found (in the U.S.) that the best chains are the Motel 6's, Super 8 and Microtel on Friday and Saturday nights. The rooms are inexpensive and usually quite full of people having sex. I entirely agree that the 3* hotels seem to be the best. I've found that checking out hotels on the booking web sites allow you to read customer feedback. Where there are complaints about think walls you have a mark.
I stayed in a really huge hotel in Birmingham recently (Paragon) - its rubbish but with many adjoining rooms. I was entertained to the sound of a local girl getting laid at about 1:00am....
