As some others have said, I really do not have a lot to add here that has not been said already. Each person who is into this stuff must consult his or her own conscience and decide what is acceptable. For myself I know that my partner would never agree to be recorded for any reason and therefore I would not even consider doing it. She is aware that I have some stuff recorded and is alright with that but does not seem very interested herself and that is as far as it is likely to go.
As for the recording of this stuff being illegal, well I am not a lawyer, however from what I know of the law it depends firstly on where you live and on exactly what you are doing to record, they would have a hard time prosecuting you for just setting up a recorder in a motel room for instance, you could be doing that for any number of reasons, but deliberately setting up mics by someone's doors or windows would probably constitute a violation of whatever laws against so-called peeping toms exist in that area, and most places have those. However I realize I am straying off of the topic, legal and ethical behavior quite often have very little to do with each other. I will just end by agreeing with whoever said if you decide you are going to make recordings for god sakes don't get caught at it.

If you ever had a bad breakup, she might decide to tell others about your "perverted" fetish! Now, that would be embarrassing...and possibly dangerous depending on whether your targets found out about it.
Thats the reason I have never told my girlfriends about this fetish.
