Its a known fact that one remote way of capturing sounds is via a scanner which can receive all manners of low powered devices.
One such device that it can receive are baby monitors - these things can transmit up to a mile away and act as a microphone into the houses of the people who have them installed.
Through my experience it takes extreme patience/chance to actually capture any sounds though and more often than not all you receive is peoples noisy houses or arguments.
Juts putting this out there to see if any fellow members have ever tried to capture sounds via a scanner and what type of success you have had?
There are about 5/6 in my area but as yet, nothing has transpired

Re: Baby Monitors ?
I have some experience in trying to catch baby monitors from the surrounding but never listened to anything close to the desired sounds. If you do a search for
on the forum, you will find a few threads where we talked about that.baby monitor

Re: Baby Monitors ?
I've done a lot of listening around with scanners over the years, in fact I need to get me a new one as the keypad on mine is really starting to crap out. You're right that you are going to put in a lot of hours of listening to not much to hear anything. I've never actually caught anything off of a baby monitor yet, have actually heard a couple having phone sex once or twice and I am not talking about somebody calling a 900 number or something like that, these things were spontaneous and the real deal so far as I could tell. Unfortunately I did not have any means of recording the sessions, besides I am rather hesitant to do so and I'd be very hesitant about sharing anything I did get because recording phone conversations is illegal as hell in many areas.
So keep on listening, you'll eventually get something.
