equipment

Post by tig1558 »

I have a new single young lady moving in next door, our house is about 300' away any advice on what kind of equipment I should buy and install before she moves in? she is very beautiful and a nurse. should be fun, to record her, can't wait to share. I have also just bought a EAR-2000 to listen through motel walls not sure how well it works yet. I'll let know how it works.

Not sure what kind of equipment to recommend if you have to record through your wall...but I have found a "baby monitor" to be useful for hearing the sounds in the first place. For my noisy neighbors, I could only hear them going at it from my computer room, so if I was waiting/hoping for them to start and wanted to go to the living room to watch TV or something, I would just set up the baby monitor mic in the window of my computer room and carry the reciever to the room I was going to be in and wait for the (audio) show to start! Then I knew to get my digital recorder going!

microphones

I picked up a shotgun microphone last fall on Ebay - I get about a 50 to 75 decibel increase... with the weather in these latitudes I haven't had much of a chance to try it on an open window but my limited tests have been encouraging.

Depending on how much you wish to spend, there are some nice cardioid and super-cardioid microphones out there (parabolic as well). The problem I've had with neighbor recordings (houses not apartments) has been getting close enough to the source without running the risk of discovery... you'll need an amplifier and a patch cord to your recorder.

Contact microphone - I've looked at the EAR-2000 > would love to "hear" what you think and how well it works for you...

300' will be hard. A laser system may work, but they are subject to issues with lights and wind and heat etc. A big parabolic may work, but you have issues with wind and outside noise. If you can get into the house, one of the Nokia "spy" phones left behind under the couch is a really good tool. These phones have a mode that you can set. It will auto answer without ringing and transmit anything it hears. Just discreetly stick it someplace and after the battery is dead, stop back over and say you lost your phone the other day? Have you seen it?

I have also heard of These Nokia spyphones, I hope I can get one cheap because the Price I saw was like 300 Euro. Also, people may be puzzled why one uses such an ld Nokia phone in our smartphone days :D

Difficult to say without more details of the layout. I second shotgun mic, but only if you have line of sight to bedroom. If there are buildings in the way or window is on other side, shotgun will not work well at all.

Permanent transmitter is an option but would have to hard wire that into the electrical system (or at least unscrew an outlet and plug it in and just put a blank faceplate over it.. but this option you run the risk of possible fire, etc. Could possibly run a lead all the way from house to house but not sure how well the pickup would be with that much wire, plus the weather conditions may deteriorate the line.
