This community should offer the old yahoo groups file sharing function as good as possible. You can add an attachment to your message in all those forums that are intended to do so.

You can add up to 3 attachments to a single message. There is a limit of 250 mb for all attachments (limit for single files is set by php.ini to 8 mb) before the files will be moved to yeppie.org members section.

When uploading files, please choose the right category and forum and give a good description.

You can see a list of all uploaded files: there is a "List of uploads" link (edit: not yet with the new forum software but will return asap) at the very top which shows a list of all attachments that have not been moved to the archives.

So, we still have to adhere to the 5mb limit? Or is there another way of posting larger files directly to Yeppie.org (other than emailing them to you)?

i think the 5mb limit wasnÂ´t that bad if it would have been valid.
i thought about this and tend to keep the limit as a standard. you never know who signs up and what they will post. but it would be easy to increase the limit for certain members temporarily (or as default). the only limit will be the serverÂ´s php setting, i suppose it might be set to 8mb.

all looks good here so far Yeppie, i was just wondering though, surely you're bandwidth costs are gonna go sky-high?

That is why I set the capacity for attached files to 100mb.

If what the provider states is true, there should be no problem with bandwith cost in the middle run. I have paid 10gb per day included. The average daily bandwith used is 1gb, before the new community was installed. Problem might be that they oversell too heavily and donÂ´t like to see someone coming near this limit too often.

First I would think about solutions for lowering traffic, moving the podcast feed to another provider for example.
If the number of users and the bandwith used rises too high, we will have to discuss a low (and I mean "low") membership fee for the community. I do not think that this will happen, but I donÂ´t want to promise "free forever".

Is this section viewable only by active/paying members? Just curious in case I was feeling generous and wanted to share some large files with the folks.

At the moment, everything is accessible for everyone who registered as a member. Paying / being active is only required for access to the archives at yeppie.org.
This is the preferred way but if you want special files (like your videos) to be available only for active/subscribed members, send them to my known email and i will upload them only to the files section (archives).

it seems that there is a 20mb upload limit per day?! at least thats the message i get when i try to upload.

iÂ´m still sometimes a bit confused about the many options. you are right, there is a 20mb upload limit for users. this is meant for "normal" users to prevent someone registering and uploading trash until the capacity is exceeded.
there now is a "no limit" setting for the group "active users" (which in fact is set to a 1000mb quota).

now i get this message when i try to post an attachement:

"Sorry, you have reached your maximum Upload Quota Limit of 40 MB"

found the reason (i think): individual rules are stronger than group rules. i changed the group settings to "no limit" but not the individual settings that i assigned before.
please try again. if any error occurs, i will fight it
