Re: request for site administrators
Suidakra, thanks for the suggestion! I always liked the idea of contests, so feel free to start a good one ...
Concerning the number of participants you shouldn´t be too ambitious, 25% of the members would mean 1580 contributions
The main reason why there haven´t been contests recently is the fact that the reactions usually weren´t that overwhelming to say the least.
Anyway, I´m not disappointed with the community activity this year ... we are constantly growing and more new members than before became contributors of great sounds pretty quick after joining. On the other hand we lost a few contributors which is sad (thinking of Look for example).
The overall numbers are ok - the admin panel says 4.7 messages per day which is a constant since long. I didn´t count the number of attachments per year but I estimate 2011 to be the best year of all. Something else I noticed is that messages and recordings seem to come in waves. In early autumn there were so many new sounds that I began calculating how long the server capacity would last, then we had a period of 4 weeks or so with only 1 or 2 messages a day. The last days gave cause to the hope of a new wave coming ...
Returning to your initial thought - maybe this is a good time for a new contest ... may it help to start the wave!

Re: request for site administrators
i know that its sur-estimate 25% its just a joke just to push in the back of the members loll ...
and for the contst i was thinking that the admin have to create/start a contest. Ill think of what kind of contest i can start. Did i have to create a contest section or just put a post on any board?

Re: request for site administrators
All regular members should be able to create a contest (if the admins did their job the right way). Just start a new topic (replying won´t work) and you´ll see a tab (next to "upload an attachment") that says something like "start a poll"
There already is a contest section (subforum of members):
viewforum.php?f=21
What about some sort of advent season poll?

Re: request for site administrators
I agree with yeppie in that material does tend to come in waves. Although I admit that sometimes I will limit the amount of information flow I am posting on the board on occassion (meaning posting too many new clips at once) just so it does not seem that I am monopolizing the board and in the hopes that it will inspire someone else that may have been 'sitting on the sidelines' to contribute as well. While new sounds are always great, I look forward more to a variety of sounds from different users. I still have quite a few clips yet to be 'digitized' and posted, as I am sure stingrayplayer does (I would guess that stud has libraries worth..ha). Yeppie has built it...just be patient and the sounds will cum

On a side note, i think the 'contests' got much better response when it was a yahoo group in the early days.. i remember always fighting to find/get sounds to post for the weekly contest... but competition was tough since the internet was relatively new and all the audio voyeurs seemed to have new quality stuff to post each week..ahh the early days..ha.
