The audible beauty of old wooden houses

Post by Soundbite »

Living in a country where walls of houses/apartments/hotels are usually brick, 4"/9" thick, and floors are concrete, covered with laminate/carpet/tiles, it is almost impossible to hear any sound at all from adjoining rooms/neighbouring houses. So it was a new experience for me, during a recent visit to England, to be staying overnight in an old double-story boarding lodge composed, it would seem, entirely of wooden floors and dry-wall partitions. My room was on the ground floor and one was aware of the movement of other residents along the passages and in their respective rooms.
Shortly after retiring to my bed, I became aware of the resident's movements in the room directly above mine. These were the normal shuffling about, toilet flushing, taps/shower running sounds that one would expect. Then there was a period of silence, which I assumed meant that the occupant had gone to sleep. :(
However, after about 20 minutes there was distinct, heavy tramping along the passage, followed by a door opening and closing.
After another short period of silence, I began to hear a series of faint rhythmic squeaks from the floor joists (in the ceiling) above me. Soon there were audible rhythmic bleats of enjoyment of a young woman filtering through from above. :D
The faint squeaks soon became much louder as the action above obviously became more intense, accompanied by a rise in volume of the bleats of enjoyment.
Then came a period of silence, before the proceedings were repeated. This happened at least three times, with me in a somewhat rather frenzied state of my own arousal.
I can only imagine that the changes in floor board intensity were due to the couple changing position, or oral mixed with penetration.
Later, a door opened and heavy footsteps disappeared down the passage. :(
At breakfast the next morning, a young, attractive woman in her mid-20's sat down at a table near to mine. A friend already at the table asked how she was. She replied that she was "OK, but tired". I can only assume that this was the young woman in the room above mine.
How I envy people who live/stay-over in old houses/hotels/lodges with their resonant walls and floors.
