two hotel visits any tips...?

Post by mass130 »

Hi All

I have a couple of nights in a hotel coming one in the UK and one in Copenhagen. A night in each. I have never captured anything at a hotel before. Always had the ear stuck to the wall hoping for some action , never had any luck, other than making out is there something next door going or not, you know that feeling? :)
I have a Sony ICD-PX333 it is a new device hoping to capture some action for all to share with. Other than placing the recorder at the door which I really don't want to risk, chances of getting caught i think are too high, and I do not really want to loose recorder. Any suggestions as to where it could be placed? Any other tips from you pro's will be great. I do not have the whole 007 kit but hoping mine will do the job.

Thanks

Don't worry too much about getting caught. It happens. Just so long as nobody sees you lurking by a door, recorder in hand, you can usually bluff your way out by confidently walking towards the stairs or lift. You could also smile at the person who catches you and say 'hi'. Other people will assume your just stretching your legs / looking for a vending machine / going back to your room after meeting another guest ect.

The trick is not to be caught looking furtive. And that means being alert for doors opening, footsteps, converastion, people coming into view and then acting quickly.

I guess the key to finding a sound is in the corridors, rather than in your own room. With a recorder like that you should indeed only place it under a door if you have found yourself some action and you standing in front of it. Any opening door, grab it and start walking slowly.

I am particularly interested in what tips people have on finding the door where something is going happen. Let's say there are 50 doors in an L-shaped corridor and 1 couple will start in 5 minutes, how do I make sure I am there in front of that door when things start?

I always think I am missing action that is going on somewhere else in the hotel...
