USB recorder reformat

I bought 2 of these USB recorders https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AK6VKHU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1and all 3 seem to have some intermittent loud scratching noise. Does anyone know if they can be reformatted or renew the software on them?

I doubt it will fix your loud scratching noises but you might want to try running chkdsk on the device. You need to know the drive letter when it is plugged in, and than you can run chkdsk -r drive_letter. On one of mine that had some corruption it hung for a long time (10 minutes?) before it came back to the command prompt. In my case it would look like it was recording but not save any files. It did after the chkdsk.
