Why Whisper During Sex?

I recently observed something that made me think. It was while listening to a long personal recording, that a member of SSL was kind enough to share with me. For good reasons, that I understand, they did not want to share it in the open forum.

The quality of the recording was excellent and it was just over 3 hours 30 minutes long. It consisted of him and his female friend, having sessions of sex and then chatting between the moments of passion. The female friend did not know their fun was being recorded. Apart from enjoying listening to it, I noticed something that made me think.

During sex, the female companion was not inhibited when it came to the volume of her sounds. In between the sessions of fun, she chatted at normal volume. However, when she was involved in any sexual activity and wanted to say something, she whispered, rather than speaking at normal volume. Given the volume of her other sounds, it was obviously not because she did not want to be overheard.

Has anyone else noticed this, either when listening to sex sounds, or being involved in the act?

Ok, in all seriousness, this is common. Anyone with personal experience knows that whisper is somehow more intimate. I think it has something to do with the fact that. whispering indicates proximity to another human, which indicates trust. And proximity during caveman times was important because you did not want to alert any animal that might eat you or give up your location to someone who might come and kill you and take your food. So you only stayed close to people who you trusted, who you thought wouldn't kill you over food or give your position to other animals.

In more logical terms, during sex your faces are often closer together in whatever position you might be in. There is obviously kissing involved. So it really doesn't mean sense to be loud when you are literally in someones face. Probably kills the mood.

Many thanks for the interesting and detailed answer. It does sound logical. As for the point; "In more logical terms, during sex your faces are often closer together in whatever position you might be in." I wonder if people still whisper when doing doggy and their faces are not close together?

To make sure the file did not mistakenly find it's way on to the internet I did delete it after listening, so I can not listen again. For that reason I can not remember for certain, but I think, when she said words relating to her enjoyment during the sex, they were spoken at normal volume. It was only when they talked to one another during the sex, that they whispered.

It is interesting and if any members get caught trying to record, maybe they could claim it is for research purposes, as they are doing a thesis at university on why people whisper while having sex I'm not convinced that would work though.

Doggy is a little bit more of a primal position. I'm sure you know its considered more rough. You can pull her hair, spank her, grab her throat from behind and whatever else your partner fancies. And you won't be loud, but it will be little bit more than a whisper, obviously.

Whispering is just more intimate. I think if anything, it signals the two people whispering are really attracted to each other.

Equally, we can look at it from the other perspective by asking yourself "why talk loudly during sex"? I think that might reveal an interesting answer.
